Why are some internet explorer links not working?

Sometimes when I click a link nothing happens. I've tried the ctrl & click option, but that only works for some links. Some web pages load looking odd & not as up to date. when refining searches on sites like ebay I cat click anything at all & right-clicking doesn't do a thing either. I am growing impatient & i've been told that its my internet options, but ive changed them to certain specifications that don't work either. i've disabled my virus blocking software & pop up blocker already & that doesn't work either. pleas help!!
