Help with buying suitable guitar strings?

If you're going to be tuning down a lot and playing metal you should get a heavier gauge string like 11's or 12's. The more expensive, coated ones last longer usually, but they all wear out as you play them. You will go through strings often enough and the differences between the materials don't matter much, but try as many out as you can and find what you like.
